About The Awards

Awards! Auction! Dinner! Dancing!

Established in 1988 and first awarded in 1989, the Honor Award recognizes people who have worked for the betterment of the LGBTI community through a single significant effort or a sustained period of transforming work. The D. Bennett Mazur Award, established in 1992 and first awarded at Honor 1993, recognizes those individuals who, at extreme risk to themselves, have nevertheless made sustained and profound contributions to transforming our society. Since it began, with these awards, the Annual Achievement Awards Banquet has acknowledged the extraordinary volunteer work done by more than 125 local activists.

Honor 2007 Nominations Being Accepted!

JULY 1, 2007: It is that time of year again --- to nominate a hard-working GLBTI activist in New Jersey for an HONOR 2007 Award. These awards are different than many other awards because nominations come from the community and winners are determined by previous HONOR awardees. There are four award categories --- Achievement Awards, the D. Bennett Mazur Award, the Rebecca Locketz Legal Award and the Spiritual Outreach Award. Please read the nomination rules to see the specific requirements for each.

HONOR provides a wonderful opportunity to recognize individuals who have dedicated themselves towards working in and/or for the GLBTI community. Perhaps it's an individual who has started a social group --- or maybe someone who was willing to put their story out in the public eye --- or someone who has pitched in with an organization for many, many years --- whatever the reason, HONOR is there to recognize those achievements.

Attached you will find the nomination criteria and the nomination form. All nominations are due by AUGUST 1st --- so don't delay!!! And --- the competition for these awards can be fierce --- please make sure you make a strong case as to why YOUR nominee should win! Remember, the awards are determined by a panel of former HONOR awardees --- they may not know the person you nominate --- so the only thing they will know is what you submit!

Please --- take this opportunity to recognize someone who deserves recognition!
