This organization has begun the Healthy Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Students Project (HSP), http://www.apa.org/ed/lgby.html, which is designed to serve the needs of all personnel working with this student population. The project can be accessed through the Association's website, which includes "Just the Facts about Sexual Orientation and Youth: A Primer for Principals, Educators and School Personnel."
The Lesbian & Gay Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union has launched "Every Student, Every School." The in-service training program at the core of this campaign is geared to teach educators about the problems caused by homophobia in schools and how to take positive steps to resolve them. "Every Student, Every School" offers more than just the training program for schools. It also offers resources concerning how to advocate for district-wide nondiscrimination and anti-harassment policies, and how to resolve such common gay-related student issues as same-sex dates for proms and gay student clubs.
This committee provides social and educational support for social workers.
GLSEN provides student curriculum and staff training materials designed to fight anti-gay prejudice and hate motivated violence in schools. The organization also provides guidance and support in organizing Gay- Straight Student Alliances in schools.
This organization, together with Planned Parenthood of CT, has published "Tackling Gay Issues in School." This document contains recommended curriculum, staff development and extra-curricular activities and resources.
Massachusetts has, as a state, set up a model program for addressing anti- gay bigotry in schools. The report, "Making Schools Safe for Gay and Lesbian Youth," outlines what they have done to address this issue.
This project produces materials for teachers, counselors and administrators. It also produces gay and lesbian curriculum for schools, K-12.

This organization publishes several documents of value to the educator. Among them are: "Strengthening the Learning Environment: A School Employees Guide to Gay and Lesbian Issues" and "Just the Facts about Sexual Orientation and Youth: A Primer for Principals, Educators and School Personnel." (The latter source was jointly developed by a variety of professional organizations and can be requested by email to ccalhoun@nea.org.)
NYAC is the only national organization focused solely on information and education addressing the broad range of issues facing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) youth. Their Bridges Project is the national clearing house for providing information, resources and assistance to GLBT youth and those that support them.
This committee has been established to address questions of sexual orientation in schools. It has developed training materials regarding employee rights and responsibilities regarding issues of sexuality.
This organization produces the most frequently sited source of information for educators. It identifies sources of information and guidelines for administrators, teachers, GLBT students and their families when dealing with instances of harassment. The Resource Guide is available for download, at no cost, on the website.
This organization provides comprehensive information and educational resources on human sexuality. "SIECUS Reports" is a bimonthly professional journal.
The Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine has two programs available to schools. They focus on testing, treating and prevention aspects of teen health:
U.S. Department of Education This department publishes guides for schools on addressing harassment and hate crimes toward students, and for developing school and district policies and procedures around these issues. Probably most useful is the guide, "Protecting Students from Harassment and Hate Crime."
