GAAMC is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization that exists to provide the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community with a variety of support services. Gay Helpline of NJ is a volunteer-operated service that offers a comprehensive information source, and counseling and support. The Helpline operates from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Helpline volunteers are trained to handle a wide variety of calls.


The Peer Listening Line
Phone: (800) 399-PEER

This is a toll-free helpline, staffed from 7-10 p.m. on Monday through Friday (as staffing allows) by trained gay youth volunteers backed by mental health professionals. The hotline provides peer support, resource referral and safer sex information.


National Gay and Lesbian Youth Hotline
(800) 347-8336

This helpline operates from 7-11:45 p.m. on Thursday to Sunday, and provides crisis intervention and referral services to gay and lesbian youth nationwide.


Trevor Helpline
(800) 850-8078

This helpline focuses on issues confronting young people who are questioning their sexuality, and on those who may be considering suicide. It offers a chance to talk with trained counselors who can also assist in locating local resources.
