1. Why should I get involved?

   The NJLGC is an entirely volunteer run organization. We have no paid staff so we rely upon people like you to keep the organization running.

2. What kind of people is the NJLGC looking for?

   The primary need of our organization is self-motivated people who are willing to take on a responsibility and commit to putting in at least a few hours each month to make sure their job gets done. These types of jobs are ones in which you do the work when you want, and meet with people when it is most convenient for all.

   If you are interested in this type of volunteering, please email us or fill out our volunteer application form.

   We also need people who want to help just occasionally (or just for a “one shot deal”), such as for a mail stuffing, or at an event. These jobs are done at the specific places and times when the events are being held. You will have extensive guidance for these jobs. If this is the type of volunteer help you wish to provide, check back here for opportunities and call or e-mail us before that event.

Current Volunteer Positions

The New Jersey Lesbian & Gay Coalition is committed to moving full steam ahead for New Jersey’s GLBT communities, but we need people like you to make things happen. Without volunteers there is literally no NJLGC. Below are some of the current opportunities we have. You might consider these “suggested” positions as each person is encouraged to do the work he or she wants to do as his or her way of helping the organization. Please contact us if you are interested in any of these positions or if you have any other questions.

If necessary, our office and other resources are available for you to perform volunteer functions. This includes: meeting space, storage and filing space, our P.O. Box, telephone, fax machine, a windows computer with modem and printer, web space, and njlgc.org POP or alias e-mail addresses. You may be reimbursed for any direct and justifiable expenses encountered. All direct or indirect expenses are tax-deductible if not reimbursed.

The NJLGC/PLF has several special projects/committees in need of volunteers.  

• AIDS Advisory Board
• Web Team — Even people with minimal HTML skills
• Legislative efforts
• Same Sex relationship equality (domestic partnership and marriage)
• Student outreach
• Religious outreach (directory, religious group outreach)
• Corporate outreach
• Outreach to local libraries
